Astrak supplies DuraTrack SALT dozer track chains in pitches from 154mm to 260mm, matched to the make and model, for CAT, Komatsu, Liebherr and John Deere crawler dozers. Sealed and lubricated with oil, not grease, because grease lubrication is not designed for the loads a dozer puts through its undercarriage. All manufactured to OEM specification in ISO 9001 approved facilities.

SALT Dozer Chains
154mm to 260mm pitchOil filled and sealed. The oil cuts internal friction between pin and bushing, extending internal bushing life by up to 50% compared to a greased and sealed chain. Rails hardened to 13mm deep for dozer duty.

What Makes a SALT Chain Different
Sealed And Lubricated Track. A dozer pushes, rips and turns under load all day, and a grease filled joint cannot carry that. A SALT joint runs in oil, sealed for life.

Pins and bushes are hardened to 55-60RC. Internal bushing life is extended by up to 50% compared to a greased and sealed chain.

When Does a Dozer Chain Need Replacing?
Internal pin and bush wear shows itself as chain stretch. Measure pin centres across four or five links against the new chain specification: on a 50 link chain, 1mm of pin wear plus 1mm of bush enlargement adds around 100mm to the overall length.
- Stiff joints, or links that no longer articulate freely
- Flat spots or external wear on the bush where the segment teeth run
- Excessive side rail wear or gouged rail corners, usually a shoe that is too wide or tension that is too tight
- Loose pins, worn pin ends, or bushing counterbore and pin boss deformation
- The chain jumping the segments: worn segments, a broken track adjuster spring, worn rollers or the wrong pitch
Where the wear falls depends on the work. Dozing and push loading load the front of the undercarriage, ripping and drawbar work load the rear, and side hill work loads the downhill side. Wear increases in reverse and in higher gears, so keep reversing and non-productive high speed travel to a minimum, keep the track correctly tensioned, and use the narrowest shoe that still gives adequate flotation.
The chain, segments, rollers and idlers wear as one system. A new chain on worn segments wears faster, so measure the whole undercarriage before changing the chain alone.
