What Goes Into a DuraTrack Dozer Track Roller

Track rollers carry the weight of the dozer through the track chain to the ground, under push, rip and turn loads. Material, hardness and fit decide how long that lasts.

FeatureWhat it does
Forged roller shellFriction welded or submerged arc welded, then heat treated by differential quenching or through hardening.
Hardened shaftForged alloy or rolled carbon steel, hardened to carry the machine weight.
Heavy-duty sealsReinforced flanges and heavy-duty seals increase reliability in dozer conditions.
Single and double flangeA double flange roller gives more guidance to the track link. Dozers normally run a mixture of the two.
Grade 10.9 roller boltsForged from alloy steel and heat treated to OEM specification, in metric and imperial.

Every roller is matched to the make, model and serial number against our product reference guide. Parts are not interchangeable between models, or often between serial number ranges of the same model.

Track roller or carrier roller?
Track rollers, also called bottom rollers, sit along the underside of the track frame and carry the machine weight. Carrier rollers, also called top rollers, sit on top of the frame and guide the track over it. Both are listed by make and model, and a full kit includes both.
What do I need to identify my track rollers?
Machine make, model and serial number; the number of track rollers and carrier rollers; the track shoe width in millimetres; any markings cast into the old rollers; and whether the machine is on a standard undercarriage or a proprietary system such as Cat SystemOne or Komatsu PLUS. The roller is confirmed against the product reference guide before we quote.
Do I need new roller bolts?
Roller bolts are grade 10.9, the same grade as sprocket bolts. They are forged from alloy steel and heat treated to OEM specification, in metric and imperial, and held in stock alongside the rollers.

When Do Dozer Track Rollers Need Replacing?

Track roller wear shows on the tread and the flanges, where the chain rails run over the roller. Measure the rollers against new dimensions whenever the chain is measured, because the two wear together.

  • Wear on the roller tread and flanges where the chain rails run
  • Side wear on the link pin bosses before the links are fully worn, which means the rollers want replacing
  • The chain jumping on the sprocket, which worn track rollers are one cause of
  • Material packing between the rollers and the links, which stops them running true and speeds up wear

Wide shoes increase roller tread and flange wear: use the narrowest shoe that still gives adequate flotation, and keep the track correctly tensioned. Dozing and push loading put the load on the front rollers; ripping puts it on the rear.

Change all the bottom rollers on a track together. One new roller among worn ones stands proud and carries more than its share of the load, so it wears faster than the set it replaced.

Dozer Track Roller Questions, Answered

What is a dozer track roller?
A track roller, also called a bottom roller, sits along the underside of the track frame on a crawler dozer and carries the weight of the machine through the track chain to the ground. DuraTrack dozer track rollers have forged roller shells, heat treated, on hardened shafts with heavy-duty seals.
Which dozer makes and models do you cover?
DuraTrack track rollers are listed for more than 450 crawler dozer and track loader models, including CAT D1 to D10 and the 931 to 963 track loaders, John Deere 450 to 850, Komatsu D39 to D155, Case 450 to 2050M and Liebherr PR711 to PR756, with New Holland, Hyundai and Daewoo covered too. Send the make, model and serial number and we confirm the correct roller against our product reference guide.
Single flange or double flange?
DuraTrack dozer track rollers come as single flange and double flange rollers. A double flange roller gives more guidance to the track link, and dozers normally run a mixture of the two. Each model is listed with both, and the machine model and serial number tell us which your undercarriage takes.
How do I know when track rollers are worn?
Track roller wear shows on the tread and the flanges, where the chain rails run. Side wear on the link pin bosses before the links are fully worn, or a chain that jumps on the sprocket, can both point to worn rollers. Measure the rollers against new dimensions whenever the chain is measured.
Should I change all the track rollers together?
Yes. It is best practice to change all the bottom rollers on a track together. One new roller among worn ones stands proud, carries more than its share of the load and wears faster. On dozer undercarriage a full kit adds the idlers, carrier rollers and bottom rollers to the track groups and sprocket segments, so the whole undercarriage wears from the same starting point.
What warranty comes with dozer track rollers?
DuraTrack dozer track rollers carry a 3 year, 3,000 hour warranty, whichever comes first, matching the OEM warranty period. It is a direct replacement warranty, not a pro rata assurance.
How quickly can you deliver dozer track rollers?
Stocked rollers are held across eight stocking locations, with the roller bolts to go with them.
