DuraTrack Undercarriage
Excavator Idlers
All DuraTrack idlers are produced to OEM specifications and are readily available to fit a wide range of tracked machinery. We offer a variety of cast idler assemblies, each complete with heavy-duty seals, shafts and brackets to deliver durability and performance.
The front idler sits at the front of the track frame. It guides the track links and, pushed forward by grease pressure in the track adjuster, keeps the track at the correct tension.
- Complete cast assemblies: idler, seal group, shaft and brackets
- Listed by machine make and model, with the OEM part number where the catalogue carries it
- Manufactured to OEM specification in ISO 9001 approved facilities
- Next-working-day delivery from UK stock

How to Identify an Idler
The machine identifies the assembly. Send what you can and we confirm the rest against our product reference guide before quoting.
| What to send | Where to find it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Machine make, model and serial number | The manufacturer's data plate on the machine. | Idlers are listed by machine model, and variants within a model, such as link count or a solid or suspended mount undercarriage, can take a different assembly. |
| OEM part number, if you have it | The parts book, or the markings on the side of the old idler. | Many idlers are also catalogued under the OEM number, so it confirms the match directly. |
| Number of links and track shoe width | Count the links on the chain; measure the shoe in millimetres. | Confirms the undercarriage the idler runs in. |
| Whether the track adjuster is being changed | Your own inspection. | The adjuster pushes the idler forward, and changing both together carries the longer adjuster warranty. |

What Wears an Idler Out
Idler wear shows on the tread and the flanges, where the track links run over it. Three things speed it up.
- Wide track shoes: they increase link, roller and idler tread and flange wear. Use the narrowest shoe that still gives good flotation.
- Work that loads the front of the undercarriage: dozing, push loading and working downhill all put more load on the front, where the idler sits.
- Incorrect track tension: a track that is too tight or too slack wears every mating component, and a failed track adjuster leaves the track in exactly that state.
A worn idler also shortens the life of a new track adjuster, which is why the two are best checked together. Our free undercarriage inspection measures the idler against new dimensions and reports its wear alongside the rollers, chain, sprockets and adjuster.

Change the Idler, Check the Rest
Three things worth looking at at the same time as the idler.
Track Adjusters
The adjuster pushes the idler forward, and a worn idler can cause a new adjuster to fail early. It is far easier to replace the adjuster while the idler is off, and fitting both together carries the 12 month adjuster warranty.

Track Rollers
Change the bottom rollers as a set. A single new roller sits proud of the worn ones and increases the wear rate on everything around it.

Free Undercarriage Inspection
We measure every undercarriage component and give you a written wear report with the corrective actions, so the idler is changed once, with the parts around it, rather than twice.
