DuraTrack carrier roller for an excavator

DuraTrack Undercarriage

Excavator Carrier Rollers

Heavy-duty carrier rollers are designed to guide the track over the undercarriage frame, ensuring optimal performance across a wide range of applications. Reinforced flanges and heavy-duty sealing systems help extend wear life and support long-term reliability.

Carrier rollers, also called top rollers, sit on top of the track frame and support the track on its return run, keeping it aligned as it travels back to the idler.

  • Single flange, double flange and shaft type carrier rollers
  • Listed by machine make and model, with the OEM part number where the catalogue carries it
  • Manufactured to OEM specification in ISO 9001 approved facilities
  • Next-working-day delivery from UK stock
Delivery & Warranty
Place your order before 4:30pm and it will be despatched for delivery on the next working day. The warranty term for your carrier rollers is confirmed when we quote.
Carrier roller or top roller?
The same part. Parts books and suppliers call it the carrier roller or the top roller. Whichever name is on the parts list, the make, model and serial number identify it.

How to Identify a Carrier Roller

The machine identifies the roller. Send what you can and we confirm the rest against our product reference guide before quoting.

What to sendWhere to find itWhy it matters
Machine make, model and serial numberThe manufacturer's data plate on the machine.Carrier rollers are listed by machine model, and variants within a model can take a different roller.
OEM part number, if you have itThe parts book, or the markings on the side of the old roller. Many carrier rollers are also catalogued under the OEM number, so it confirms the match directly.
Number of carrier rollers on each sideCount them along the top of the track frame.Confirms the undercarriage layout and how many rollers to order.
Single or double flange, and track shoe widthLook at the old roller; measure the shoe in millimetres.A double flange roller gives more guidance to the track link, and the shoe width confirms the undercarriage the roller runs in.

What Wears a Carrier Roller Out

Carrier roller wear shows on the tread and the flanges, where the track links run over it. Three things speed it up.

  • Wide track shoes: they increase link, roller and idler tread and flange wear. Use the narrowest shoe that still gives good flotation.
  • Packing: material that sticks to the rollers and packs between them and the links stops the parts engaging correctly and increases wear. Keep the undercarriage clean.
  • Incorrect track tension: a track that is too tight or too slack wears every mating component, the carrier rollers included.

Carrier rollers are best checked at the same time as the bottom rollers. Our free undercarriage inspection measures the top rollers and bottom rollers against new dimensions and reports their wear alongside the chain, idlers and sprockets.

Change the Carrier Rollers, Check the Rest

Three things worth looking at at the same time as the carrier rollers.

DuraTrack bottom roller

Bottom Rollers

Bottom rollers, also called track rollers, carry the machine's weight along the underside of the frame. Change them as a set: a single new roller sits proud of the worn ones and increases the wear rate on everything around it.

Idlers

The idler guides the track links at the front of the frame and wears on the same tread and flanges. Check it while the carrier rollers are being changed.

Free Undercarriage Inspection

We measure every undercarriage component and give you a written wear report with the corrective actions, so the carrier rollers are changed once, with the parts around them, rather than twice.

Carrier Roller Questions, Answered

What does a carrier roller do?
Carrier rollers, also called top rollers, sit on top of the track frame and support the track on its return run, keeping it aligned as it travels back to the idler. Heavy-duty carrier rollers are designed to guide the track over the undercarriage frame.
What is the difference between a carrier roller and a bottom roller?
Carrier rollers sit on top of the track frame and support the track on its return run. Bottom rollers, also called track rollers, sit along the underside of the frame, between the frame and the part of the track on the ground. Both wear on the tread and flanges, and both are listed by machine model.
Single flange, double flange or shaft type?
DuraTrack carrier rollers come as single flange, double flange and shaft type rollers. A double flange roller gives more guidance to the track link. The machine model and serial number tell us which type your undercarriage takes.
How do I know a carrier roller is worn?
Wear shows on the tread and flanges, where the track links run, and it is measured against the dimensions of a new roller. Our undercarriage inspection reports top roller wear as a percentage of new dimensions, alongside the bottom rollers, chain, idlers and sprockets.
What makes carrier rollers wear faster?
Wide track shoes, material packing between the rollers and the links, and incorrect track tension. Use the narrowest shoe that gives good flotation, keep the undercarriage clean and keep the track correctly adjusted.
Which machines do you supply carrier rollers for?
Carrier rollers for around 60 machine makes, including Hitachi, Komatsu, CAT, Kobelco, Volvo, Hyundai, JCB, Case, Kubota and John Deere, across excavators, dozers, tracked carriers, tracked chippers and forestry machines. Select a make above to see every carrier roller we list for it by model, or send us the model and serial number if yours is not shown.
What information do you need to quote a carrier roller?
The machine make, model and serial number, the OEM part number or the markings on the side of the old roller if you have them, the number of carrier rollers on each side and the track shoe width. We confirm the match against our product reference guide before quoting.
How quickly can you deliver carrier rollers?
Place your order before 4:30pm and stocked carrier rollers will be despatched for delivery on the next working day. If the roller for your machine is not in stock we confirm the lead time when we quote.
